Located on the east coast of England, Pipetech supported a critical UK energy hub, responsible for transporting and treating a significant portion of the nation’s gas supply from offshore pipelines.
Responsible for its ongoing maintenance, one of the terminal’s operating partners had to ensure the infrastructure was operating at maximum capacity to meet its high demand. To support this commitment, Pipetech delivered a quick turnaround Aqua Milling® campaign to address the buildup of corrosion within a key operational system.
The Challenge
Corrosion build-up within the terminal’s compressor pipework was creating a risk to operations, with the potential for restricted production, unplanned outages and damage to critical equipment.
Traditional high-pressure water jetting had already been attempted but achieved limited results, removing only light corrosion over a short range. A more effective solution was needed.
The Solution
With a proven track record in removing corrosion from complex pipework systems, Aqua Milling® was selected to tackle the challenge. Pipetech mobilised within days of the initial enquiry, carrying out a site survey before demonstrating how Aqua Milling® could deliver a more thorough clean than the methods previously used.
The team then completed the work before the corrosion issue could impact operations.
The Result
The campaign delivered a clean and stable compressor pipework system, reducing the risk of corrosion-related damage and providing greater assurance over the long-term integrity of the equipment.
Pipetech’s rapid response, specialist technology and successful delivery have also opened the door to potential future work across additional sites.
